In the past, mathematics
has not been used as an effective tool in biological sciences. There
are many reasons. One is probably that there seems no fundamental
biological laws. However, the field ranges from experimental research
linked to mathematical modeling to the development of mathematical and
theoretical biology. Especially, mathematical modeling has been proven
to be useful in the study of the mechanisms that underlie the processes
of biological pattern formation. In this symposium, talks of 4
lecturers will emphasize the ability of mathematical modeling to
understand pattern formation in biological systems. |
